Doug & Renee Allen Take Their Third Victory at Salamonie-Mississinewa

On May 18, 2024, at Lakes Salamonie-Mississinewa in Wabash, Indiana, the husband-wife team of Doug & Renee Allen secured their third victory of the year. The event, hosted by Nothead Tackle and Quality Plumbing & Heating, saw anglers competing for top honors and a chance to qualify for the National Championship.

The weather was sunny to partly cloudy, with temperatures in the low 80s and a light breeze. The Allens continued their winning streak by weighing in 7.17 lbs., securing first place. They were the only team to break the 7 lbs. barrier and mentioned it was a beautiful day with no wind. They fished up the river Mississinewa, covering a lot of water, and found three areas holding males and females in 4 to 10-foot waters. They earned $2,100.00 and an additional $200.00 as the top Male-Female team.

Ben Grumbles and Nate Noblitt took second place, weighing in 6.26 lbs. They also fished Lake Mississinewa in 5-foot waters, casting jigs to suspended females. The team earned $1,000.00 for their efforts.

Mark Strunk and April Hamilton placed third overall with 5.56 lbs. The team also had the second-biggest fish with a 1.68 lb. slab. They mentioned it was rough reaching the 9-inch size limit and were casting all day, chasing suspended fish in 10-15 ft waters. They earned $920.00.

Latin Mckinney took fourth place with a 5.59 lb bag. He also had the biggest fish and won $680.00 for the day, catching all his fish on bobbers and black chartreuse jigs.

Rounding out the top five was the team of Mike and Gary Roach with 4.79 lbs. Justin and Montie Moore took the top Multipole honors with 4.16 lbs, earning them $200.00.

Next on the trail is Ross Barnett in Ridgeland, MS.  The tournament is an Open Division event and will pay back 100% Plus a $50.00 per boat big fish from the National Crappie League.
